2024 TCCF PITCHING CONFERENCE ANNOUNCES SELECTIONS DIVERSE PROJECTS SHINE WITH CREATIVE ENERGY
2024.09.13
The 2024 Taiwan Creative Content Fest Pitching Conference (TCCF PITCHING) today announced its list of selected projects. The Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) put together a selection committee with a strong international market perspective, choosing 62 outstanding projects from nearly 600 submissions across 21 countries. The teams behind the selected projects will not only compete for cash prizes totaling TWD 7.2 million, but also showcase their global market potential to leading entertainment companies from the US, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, France, Germany, and more.
PROJECT TO SCREEN Highly feasible projects and eclectic co-productions
The “Project to Screen” section, focused on film and television projects, received submissions from 50 countries across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania. The projects are rich and diverse in genre and possess high narrative integrity, with many backed by teams with international co-production experience. The preliminary jury, comprising representatives from the international film and television industry, includes EGGISCOMING, the South Korean production company behind Hospital Playlist, the renowned German TV network ZDF Studios GmbH, a writer from Netflix’s Resident Evil series, and a member of the Documentary Association of Europe. Following intense deliberation, the preliminary jury ultimately selected a total of 42 projects.
Project to Screen: Feature Films
The Feature Films session will showcase 12 selected projects, of which three are from Taiwan, five are from the US, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, and Indonesia, and four are international co-productions between Taiwan and other countries (including Poland, Singapore, India, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Japan). This year’s projects are intensely competitive, with a wide array of themes, unique styles, and genres including action comedy, crime thriller, psychological suspense, sci-fi, disaster, war, and even time travel, as well as an adaptation of an IP by an Akutagawa Prize-winning author. The final selections were made based on project feasibility, narrative integrity, international market potential, and inclusion of Taiwanese elements.
Project to Screen: Series
Taiwanese projects and co-productions stood out among this year’s Series selections, which include four from Taiwan, five international co-productions involving Taiwan (including with Hong Kong, Singapore, France, and Belgium), and one from the Philippines. The judges come from Asia and Europe, and the selection criteria were based on storytelling, international appeal, and feasibility of production.
Project to Screen: Animation Features and Series
The Animation Features and Series selections comprise five projects from Taiwan and one international co-production involving Taiwan (with partners from Japan, Indonesia, Italy, and Singapore), along with four projects from Chile, France, and Thailand. The formats range from animated films and series to anthologies, while the genres traverse comedy, sci-fi, action, adventure, fantasy, musical, and family, with half the projects targeting children and the other half catering to a broader audience. The selection criteria focused on project maturity, market competitiveness, diversity, and inclusion of Taiwanese elements, with team execution ability and industry impact as secondary considerations.
Project to Screen: Documentary Features and Series
A total of 10 documentary projects were selected this year, including one that received the TCCF Award at Docs By the Sea in Indonesia. Among the nine other selections, there is one project from Taiwan, six international co-productions between Taiwan and other countries (including the US, China, the Philippines, the Netherlands, Thailand, Singapore, and Myanmar), one project from China, and one co-production between Chile and France. Given the focus on social justice and the experimental nature of documentaries, the selection criteria emphasized social impact, audience communication, perspective, universality, and market potential. Additionally, teams were required to submit a teaser clip, meaning cinematography and production quality were also key considerations.
STORY TO SCREEN Diverse themes with strong adaptation potential
The “Story to Screen” section, featuring stories with strong adaptation potential, was judged by a panel of renowned industry professionals including local film producers, series producers, and content directors. In the end, the panel selected 12 original Taiwanese published books and comics. Moreover, for the very first time, “Story to Screen” is partnering with the internationally renowned adaptation brand “Shoot the Book!” at TCCF. For this special pitch session, TAICCA invited veteran international producers with experience in adapting IPs — including the producer of Dead Talents Society, a representative from Singaporean film and TV company Mokster Films, a representative of South Korean IP investment company Blintn, an active film and series producer from South Korea, and a representative of a French production company — to select eight published works from Taiwan and France that have international market potential for public pitches, offering more opportunities for international collaboration.
Story to Screen: Fiction & Non-Fiction
The Fiction & Non-Fiction session will feature six works abundant in creativity and emotional depth, showcasing a variety of genres and rich storylines, including a suspense thriller, a historical mystery with supernatural elements, a BL police academy drama, a family comedy about a granddaughter who reincarnates as her grandmother, forbidden love affairs, and a family’s daily struggle with trauma and healing.
Story to Screen: Comics
The Comics session is highlighted by six works with distinctive visual styles and captivating graphics. These include a post-apocalyptic anthology, a gripping serial killer story, a heartwarming school romance, an inspiring baseball journey, a lighthearted BL comic, and a love story involving assassins — each offering immense potential for film or series adaptation.
Story to Screen: Shoot the Book! TCCF
This year, TCCF is teaming up with the Civil Society of French-Language Publishers (SCELF) to bring the internationally renowned screen adaptation brand “Shoot the Book!” to Taiwan for the very first time. A total of eight works were selected from published French and Taiwanese books for their strong adaptation potential and international appeal, covering a range of genres from suspense to fantasy to romance.
2024 TCCF PITCHING will take place from November 5 to 8 at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 2, 7F. We look forward to the pitches by teams from Taiwan and around the world as they showcase the fruits of their creativity and foster the development of even more outstanding works brimming with market potential and international appeal!
