In the globalized film and television industry, international co-productions have become a prominent trend. However, differences in cultural backgrounds, languages, and working styles often present challenges for actors and production teams. This session features Taiwanese actors Esther LIU, WU Ke-xi, Kai KO, and JC Lin, who will share their international experiences, and talk about building connections in diverse teams, adapting to a range of directing styles and production practices, and reflecting cultural nuances in their performances.
Esther LIU is a renowned Taiwanese actress and singer fluent in Mandarin, English, Japanese, and French.
Her diverse entertainment career kicked off in 2003 when she debuted as part of the girl group Sweety. In 2015, she released her solo album “Résurrection”. As a film and TV actress, she has been nominated multiple times for the Golden Bell Awards, winning Best Supporting Actress in 2013 for the drama series “Falling”. She starred in acclaimed film “Salli”, which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival in 2023 and earned her a nomination for Best Actress at the Taipei Film Awards the following year. In 2023, she produced a reality TV show.
Having been an actress, host, writer, and program producer, Esther continues to challenge herself and looks forward to delivering even more remarkable performances in the future.
Her representative works include “The Golden Child” (2012), “Falling” (2013), “Mother to be” (2021), and “Light the Night”(2022).
Kai KO made his debut with the film "The Apple of My Eye" (2011), which earned him the Golden Horse Award for Best New Performer, propelling him to fame and increasing his recognition across Asia. He went on to star in multiple films, and in 2015, he traveled to Thailand and Myanmar to film “The Road to Mandalay”. This marked a departure from his previous youthful image and showcased his talent as a serious actor. His performance in the film earned him his first nomination for Best Actor at the 2016 Golden Horse Awards. In 2021, he won Best Actor at the 2022 Taipei Film Awards for "Till We Meet Again", and that same year, he was nominated again for Best Actor at the Golden Horse Awards for "Moneyboys", further solidifying his acting prowess.
In 2022, Kai transitioned into directing, and his directorial debut, Bad Education, was nominated for Best New Director at the Golden Horse Awards and received praise at film festivals both domestically and internationally. Kai also ventured into television, and in 2024, he won the Golden Bell Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Mini-Series (Television Movie) for "Imperfect Us", marking the first time his emotionally charged performance gained recognition from the Golden Bell judges.
JC LIN is a Taiwanese actor who made his debut in 2017 with the film “The Last Painting”. He has since starred in numerous renowned films and series, showcasing his versatility across a variety of genres, including the action film “The Scoundrels”, the social realist drama “The World Between Us”, and the family comedy “I WeirDO”. His performance in “The World Between Us” earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Bell Awards. He has also taken part in multiple international co-productions, such as the Taiwan-Austria collaboration “Moneyboys”, the Taiwan-India production “Demon Hunters”, and the Taiwan-France co-production “La Réparation”, gradually accumulating international experience and broadening his global perspective.
Ke-xi WU is a Taiwanese actress and screenwriter.
